We stumbled upon the jewel of Nevada city 24 years ago.
Impressed with the local theater scene and the wholesome friendly atmosphere, we decided this was the place to live and raise our young son. Papa Bear's Lodge was our family home until our son, Daven, went away to college. His high school cross country coach lived in Mama Bear's Cabin for a number of years, and Rene's mother loved staying in Baby Bear's Cottage when she came to live with us. It was a magical place for her.
We now live just a short distance from the cabins in downtown Nevada City, where René has a pottery studio where she throws and teaches classes. Our home is shared by our poodle, Obi, and cat, Udo, who we brought home after some cabin guests noticed he was just sort of hanging around the property. Try as we might to not get attached, Udo is now part of our family.

We personally attend to the upkeep and management of the property. Our cabins reflect our love for the arts, and you'll find Rene's handmade pottery there, too. We both love stage acting, and if you hit it just right, you may be able to catch one of us in a local play.
We love the friendly people, history, culture, and ambiance of Nevada City, as well as the beauty of the surrounding Sierra foothills. We consider it a gift to be able to share our lodge and cabins with visitors to this area, which we hope you find as comforting, relaxing, and awe-inspiring as we do.
